Engine Timing 1970 396/350. Recently finished a tune up on the original engine (plugs, points, oil etc.). Engine is completely stock - TH400, no air. I have a meter and set the idle and the dwell @ 30* and initial timing @ 4* BTC per the Chassis Service Manual. With less than 100 miles since the tune up the engine idles and runs smooth.

Hi everyone. We have just completed rebuilding a 350 chevy 4 bolt main motor installed in a 71 Chevelle. I learned a lot working with a mechanic friend. We are having trouble with idling when I put the transmission in gear. We have a real nice idle in park 800 to 1000 rpm timing is set for about 8 degrees advanced w/o vaccum advance.Tighten one bolt with the wrench one full turn, then tighten the bolt directly across from it one full turn. Tighten the third bolt one full turn, then tighten the last bolt one full turn. Repeat this pattern one more time. any advice on how to handle/approach this is appreciated.
